Description

OUPS were the first people to start offering revision weekends to help students with their end-of-module assessments. We have been running them now for over 40 years, so we know from experience exactly what students want and need in order to give them the knowledge and skills, as well as the confidence, to improve their grades. The weekend will be of benefit to all students taking the OU DD310 course on Counselling and Forensic psychology.

Special member deal !!

We recently changed our contracting arrangements with Warwick and so do not need to hold as much money in reserve as we were obliged to in the past. This has freed up some funds that we would like to use for the benefit of our members.

For our January 2022 events, OUPS will pay £75 towards the cost of each attendee, so the cost of the events to members will be £250. We will also maintain the pre-COVID rate for non-members (£345).

If you are not currently a member but would like to be, just add membership to your basket before checking out and you will get the full discount.

We hope this will help as many students as possible to come along !

Additional information

Please see our COVID-Secure FAQ for more information about the running of the weekend including our COVID-Secure arrangements.

Coronavirus statement (updated 15 September 2021)

The current covid-19 pandemic is a highly unusual and a stressful situation, but hopefully we are seeing the possibility of things returning to more normal in the coming months. We are continually assessing our situation in the light of the official advice, and we want to make our position clear to any of you who are anxious about an existing booking or who are thinking of making a booking on one of our forthcoming events.

Refund policy

The primary goal of OUPS is to support as many students as possible, not to make a profit, but as a registered charity we are also obliged to ensure that we manage our funds responsibly. Consequently, our refund policy is to issue refunds for cancellations whenever we are able to recover money from our suppliers. However, if you need to cancel after our cancellation deadline with Warwick has passed, we will have paid for your place and will not be able to reclaim the money to refund you.

Our Terms & Conditions detail the cancellation deadlines and fees under normal circumstances, and these currently apply because there are no government COVID restrictions at this time. If this changes (e.g. if there was a January lockdown) then we would expect to be able to recover payments and hence to issue full refunds for all bookings.

Aims of the Consolidation Weekend

A weekend of lectures which aim to consolidate themes across the module and build understanding of the material. The sessions explore key issues and themes to help you to see how the course fits together and how some of the chapters link together, supported by advice on how to tackle the EMA at the end of the module. These will allow you to construct an informed and intelligent view of the topics covered, which will help you with your approach to both the TMAs during Blocks 4 and 5 of the module and your final EMA.

What does the weekend offer?

This weekend offers a full programme of eight talks, running from Saturday morning (9.00am) to teatime on Sunday (last talk finishes at 3.00pm).

Attendees can arrive any time after 3pm on Friday afternoon, with dinner served at 6pm. All meals are served on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch are served on Sunday.

Extensive handouts will be given on each of these lectures. These handouts are exclusive to students attending the weekend.

Note that we cannot give answers or advice on the actual assessed work (TMAs and EMA) that is set in the current presentation of the module.

Printed material

Please note that this is a paperless event.

To be more environmentally friendly and to help manage our prices we will make electronic copies of any relevant handouts available to all registered attendees, either in advance so that those who need printed versions have plenty of time to organise these, or shortly after the event if the tutor has decided that this is more appropriate for their lecture. These are for attendees' personal use and may not be shared.

We'd like to thank our tutors for working to ensure that their presentations do not contain material to which they do not have copyright and for making them available in this way. And in advance, we'd like to thank all of you who support us in actively contributing toward a paperless environment and saving a few trees along the way !

"I was impressed with the quality of the teaching, with how each lecturer knew their subject in such depth yet could keep it simple".

"Really helpful. Good overview of chapters and approaches to take. Very supportive lecturers, able to convey a good balance re hard work and fun and importantly their enthusiasm for their topics."

"It has given me a motivation and confidence boost, I can't think of any improvements."

"Fantastic . So happy I did it!"

"Excellent as always. I wouldn't consider sitting an exam without gong on the OUPS revision weekend."

"Sadly this will be my last Warwick Revision Weekend as I graduate this year. Over the last 3 years I have found them to be indispensable and credit them with helping me achieve great grades. Thank you. I will miss being part of it."

What to expect

The lectures are conducted in management conference seminar rooms within the University campus, and you will have been provided with a timetable of talks and lecture notes before you arrive.

You can choose how you spend your time. If you book the residential package then you will have a very comfortable ensuite room in management conference facilities complete with bedding, towels, a hairdryer, coffee-making facilities and desk. Wifi is also included.

The full cost is inclusive of all meals, including Friday night and Saturday night dinner. There are no extra costs involved (except for drinks at the bar!). As well as your room and all meals this includes refreshments at break times, extensive handouts which are only available to attendees, revision of key course material, advice on revision techniques and assessment, welcome drink on Friday night. Non-residential places are available for a reduction, and the same breakfast, lunch, dinner and all tea/coffee/snack breaks during the day are still included.

The welcome briefing is a great opportunity to meet the tutors and other students over a free glass of wine or soft drink. Our OUPS committee member will also introduce themselves so you'll know who to contact if you have any questions. You can enjoy your meals with a group of students in the comfortable dining room. The food is fresh, healthy catering, and there is something to entice everyone.

Unfortunately because of the COVID situation we are not able to hold our book stall, which is usually a social centre in itself ! However we hope that you will be able to enjoy the facilities, including the outdoor areas, to meet as many others as you would like to.

Finally, whilst most students leave exhausted from the learning and socialising, they comment that it is such a worthwhile weekend, and we see many of them each year as they progress their studies!
