COUPS DE200 Preview Day
So often at the revision weekends, students say “If only we had this overview of the course earlier in the year”. That’s why OUPS (the Open University Psychological Society) created overview days. Overview days provide a framework for the whole course and help students to understand what to focus on in TMAs and the EMA. Feedback from students has been that these days are inspirational and packed with content, making them excellent value in terms of time and money. But students have then said, ‘It would have been even better to have had this right at the start of the module?’ Hence Preview Days!
This day will also give you the benefit of some face to face tuition early in the module.
Programme and structure of the day:
Registration will take place from 9.30am, with lectures starting at 10.am. The day should finish around 4pm.
DE200 covers a lot of diverse material and it is very useful to see how all this fits together up front. That is the prime purpose of this Preview Day. Taking an integrative approach to topics is central to DE200. The day will also discuss assignments in general terms and will emphasise the need to prepare for the exam as you work through the module. The Preview Day complements the COUPS Methods Overview Day, which covers what you need to know theoretically and practically about the methods you will need to get to grips with in DE200. This Methods Day will be held later in the year on 11th December – see website for more details.
The day comprises four sessions. Subject areas are:
- From social to cognitive psychology: an overview of Book 1
- From cognitive to biological psychology: an overview of Book 2
- From biological to developmental psychology: an overview of Book 3
- Assessments and how to cope with them.
Please note that we will not discuss answers to the actual TMAs or exam questions.
Places will be limited to 20 students to allow for social distancing.
