May 2015 Revision Weekend, Warwick

May 2015 has been the biggest of the OUPS May events to date. So much so that DD307 took over the entire facilities at Radcliffe and DSE212/ED209 likewise at Arden. It also necessitated closing down bookings for two of the courses a few days before the weekend, so apologies to those who could not join us as a result. It also required additional new undertakings, including two OUPS reception desks and the introduction of a coach service between the two venues for the Saturday evening entertainment.

The weekend also included a Mix and Meet on the Friday night where there was a glass of wine or fruit juice waiting after the first session of the weekend and a chance to meet the tutors and the organising OUPS committee. It also gave students the opportunity to ask those burning questions not answered in the session.

May20152On Saturday night all students and tutors met up at Radcliffe for dinner and the disco. Thus proving the weekend is about fun as well as hard work and this hopefully improves the environment for learning. In addition, Professor Frederick Toates carried out his traditional and popular quiz. The winners were a team called Cherry’s Cherubs and included team members Joanna Dreher, Christina Neuroth, Joanna Wood, Emma Duff and Matt Ball. Well done to Cherry and the Cherubs (25 points) who just beat two other teams by a single point! The evening also included the OUPS Annual General Meeting.

The weekend’s statistics included 57hrs and 30mins of tutorials (not included private sessions), two hundred and fifty- five student folders and approximately 1,600 meals!

Finally thanks to the tutors for their contribution (sessions and individual one -on-ones) and answering the many questions. Sadly there will be no more DSE212 and ED209 events as the OU has decided it is the end of the road for these courses with replacements being introduced.

  • DSE212 Frederick Toates, Graham Edgar and Graham Mitchell
  • ED209 Brenda Todd, Jo Haycock, Neil Sheasby and Alan Pechey
  • DD307 Hilary Bruffell, Julia Willerton and Phil Hulme

May20154All the very best to all students in your exams (although by the time you receive this it will be done and dusted) and we hope to see you at a future OUPS event. If you liked us please pass details on to other students and tutors of what we do – Thank you.

Some of the post-event feedback:

Just want to say a massive thank you for the weekend in Warwick, I found it so beneficial and I am really motivated for the exam revision now

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the weekend. My room was lovely, the building and grounds were very well kept, the food and staff were absolutely amazing and all the tutors were fantastic. Well worth every penny! Please pass on my thanks to all involved

Thank you for the fantastic weekend. It was certainly very useful for me.

Thanks for organising such a great revision weekend with all the improvements simply adding to the experience - now all we have to do is put all the advice into practice!
